Vijay Sethupathi Reveals His Unexpected Path to Acting

Actor Vijay Sethupathi made his debut on The Great Indian Kapil Show, delivering candid insights about his unconventional path to stardom. Appearing alongside his Gandhi Talks co-stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth Jadhav, and composer A R Rahman, Sethupathi charmed the audience with his wit and honesty. The episode, set to stream on Netflix from January 31, promotes the upcoming dialogue-free drama that releases on January 30, 2026.

From Accountant to Actor

When host Kapil Sharma asked if Vijay had formal acting training, the actor revealed an unexpected origin story. Rather than attending acting school, he started as an accountant for a theatre group, a role that eventually led him into the world of cinema. This unconventional beginning showcased how sometimes life’s detours can lead to remarkable careers in entertainment.

A Joke That Left Kapil Laughing

Kapil humorously asked if seeing a star’s bank balance had inspired Vijay to pursue acting. The actor’s quick-witted response became the show’s standout moment: “Nahi, maine apna account dekha, paisa nahi tha toh kamane ka (No, I checked my account—there was no money, so I had to earn it).” The line drew thunderous applause and left Kapil visibly impressed and laughing uncontrollably.

Directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar and produced by Zee Studios, Kyoorius, and Moviemill, Gandhi Talks is a unique cinematic experience. The film’s innovative approach of eliminating all spoken dialogue, combined with A R Rahman’s compelling score, promises an engaging narrative. After its premiere at the International Film Festival of India in 2023, audiences will finally get to experience this distinctive drama in theatres.
