Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor urged the
party to arrest the public’s perception of being rudderless.
Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said that the party must expedite the process of finding a full-term president to cease the growing public perception that Congress is rudderless and adrift. Tharoor also stated that if former president Rahul Gandhi does not wish to lead the party, then a new chief must be found, and praised the Wayanad MP of possessing the capability, aptitude, and mettle. On August 10, Sonia Gandhi, the interim Congress chief completes one year in charge and still, no successor has been appointed by the party.
Need to arrest perception of
Congress being adrift and rudderless says Shashi Tharoor:
Tharoor in an interview said,” We need to arrest the growing public perception, fueled by a dismissive media, that the Congress is adrift and rudderless, incapable of taking up the challenge of a credible national Opposition. Congress needs to urgently address by expediting the process of finding a full-term president, through a participatory and democratic process that will offer the winning candidate a legitimate mandate and the credibility that will be indispensable in ushering in much needed organizational and structural revival of the party.”
Shashi Tharoor lauds Rahul
Gandhi’s efforts:
The Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram praised Rahul Gandhi and said,” Through his activities during this lockdown, whether it has been on the issue of the COVID-19 virus or Chinese transgressions, Rahul Gandhi has without a question and almost single-handedly done a remarkable job in holding the present government accountable for its actions and failures.”
Shashi Tharoor says Congress
distinguishes Hinduism from Hindutva:
Asked about the Congress’ stance on the Ram Mandir issue and it being a “BJP-lite” version,
Tharoor dismissed it and stated,” The Congress has traditionally furthered a
brand of secularism, it acknowledges a profusion of religions and beliefs,
where all are equally respected and can peacefully co-exist. Congress remains a
party for all, the safest refuge for the minorities, the weak, and the
marginalized, and fundamentally committed to secularism.” Shashi Tharoor
underlined that the party distinguishes Hinduism from Hindutva, and took a dig
at the BJP, for merging the two.
