Shefali Shah Recalls Ranveer Singh Lifting Her at 2016 Screen Awards

Ahead of the Chetak Screen Awards 2026 ceremony on April 5, actress Shefali Shah shared a nostalgic video on Instagram from the 2016 Screen Awards. The clip captured a memorable moment when co-star Ranveer Singh lifted her on stage after their film Dil Dhadakne Do won the Best Ensemble Cast award. Hosts Karan Johar and Kapil Sharma announced the winners, following which Ranveer escorted Shefali to the stage. After encouraging her to match bhangra steps to Gallan Goodiyan, he swept her off her feet — quite literally — leaving her visibly surprised, while Deepika Padukone smiled and applauded from the audience.

Shefali revealed that her very first meeting with Ranveer during dance rehearsals for the film was equally impulsive. He lifted her from behind, exclaiming, “Shefu, let’s make a kick ass film.” She fondly described him as someone with no filters, whose ability to express emotions honestly is “absolutely childlike.” She praised his infectious energy, warmth, and deep understanding of collaborative filmmaking, noting that he always knew when to step back and support others.

An Actor Like No Other

Shefali also lauded Ranveer’s acting abilities, calling him “one of the finest actors there is.” She highlighted his layered yet seemingly effortless performances in Bajirao Mastani, 83, Padmaavat, and Dhurandhar, adding that his honesty, vulnerability, and rawness always shine through over his craft.

Ranveer responded in the comments, saying he was overwhelmed by her kindness — a sentiment Shefali warmly confirmed she meant wholeheartedly.
