Snapchat users will soon be able to change their usernames on the photo- and video-sharing platform.
Beginning February 23, the much-anticipated functionality will be available on both Android and iOS devices. Snapchat users can now delete their original usernames without creating an entirely new account. In addition, the company confirmed that changing users’ usernames will not affect their reports, friend lists, Snap codes, Snap scores, or memories.
Snapchat announced the release of the new update on Friday. As previously stated, the option to change usernames will be available beginning February 23. To change one’s Snapchat username, follow a few simple steps.
How to Change Your Snapchat Username
You can change your Snapchat username once a year by following these steps:
- Open Snapchat and navigate to the profile screen by tapping the Bitmoji icon.
- By tapping on the gear icon, you can access the settings menu.
- Tap Username, then Change Username.
- On the pop-up, click Continue and enter the new Username.
- Next, press the next button.
Previously, Snapchat did not allow users to change their usernames for security reasons.
The social media platform has recently begun testing several new features. First, it introduces a new set of parental controls on the app to protect users between 13 and 17. In addition, the snap has stated that it will limit the Quick Add feature to prevent adult strangers from finding minors on the app and adding them as friends.
The company is also toiling to improve its systems for detecting drug-related content and assisting law enforcement agencies with their investigations. Snap is also experimenting with mid-roll advertisements, which allow creators to earn money from their work on the app.
