Sonia Gandhi, a former president of the Congress, has bronchitis and has been taken into the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi. The hospital stated that the 76-year-old is stable in a statement.

According to a hospital spokesperson, Mrs Gandhi was hospitalized yesterday.

Mrs Gandhi has been taken to the hospital under the care of Arup Basu, senior consultant, Department of Chest Medicine, and his staff, according to DS Rana, chairman of the trust society at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, “on account of fever,” he said.

According to the hospital, Mrs Gandhi is being watched and is the subject of inquiries.

The source stated, “Sonia Gandhi is being observed and the subject of inquiries. Her health is stable.”

She has had two hospital admissions this year, including this one. Sonia Gandhi was hospitalized in Delhi in January to receive treatment for a viral respiratory infection.

She recently travelled to Raipur to attend the 85th Congress plenary session. About her political retirement, Mrs Gandhi expressed her happiness that her “innings could close with the Bharat Jodo Yatra” during the ceremony.

On the 1st day of the meeting, the Congress Steering Committee decided against holding elections for the Working Committee, the party’s top body. It gave Mallikarjun Kharge the go-ahead to designate its members.

Sonia Gandhi handed over control of the 137-year-old organization to Mr Kharge, a devoted supporter, in October following back-to-back electoral losses, years of internal fighting for reform, and an exodus of leaders. The Gandhis, regarded as the party’s founding family, strongly grip it.
