On Wednesday, Harsh Sanghavi, the Gujarat Minister of State for Home, stated that the Yoga Day event in Surat set a “new Guinness World Record” for the greatest assembly of individuals for a yoga session in one location.

Sanghavi said more than one lakh people attended the event, breaking the previous record.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel participated in the state-level ‘International Day of Yoga’ ceremony at the Surat neighbourhood of Dumas.

Surat makes the record on Yoga Day:

Patel stated in his remarks before the Day session that 1.25 crore people participated in the event at 72,000 sites across the state.

“The Yoga Day event in Surat has set another Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people for a yoga session in one place,” Sanghavi stated.

According to Patel, Prime Minister Narendra Modi popularised it worldwide.

“During the coronavirus pandemic, we saw how yoga and pranayam helped people,” he stated.

“In Gujarat, nearly 1.25 crore people participated in the Yoga Day session today from 72,000 locations.” “A world record was set in Surat with the participation of over one lakh people,” Patel said.

The CM declared on the occasion that the state government will open 21 ‘Yog Studios’ in the near future to popularise this art.

“To date, the state Yog Board has trained 5,000 instructors.” “The state government plans to open 21 yoga studios in the state in the coming days,” he said.

While the state-level event to commemorate International Yoga Day was conducted in Surat in the presence of CM Patel, other ministers, MLAs, members of Parliament, and bureaucrats participated in sessions around the state.

Nation celebrates 75 years of independence, the state government has chosen 75 “iconic places” throughout the state to commemorate this Day. As per official announcement, these locations include the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad, the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, the White Rann of Kutch, and the Modhera Sun Temple.

It was also stated that the events were held in many villages, towns, cities, colleges, schools, health centres, police headquarters, jails, police stations, and public spaces such as gardens.
