Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in Ahmedabad achieved a historic milestone in January 2025, recording its highest-ever passenger traffic in a single month. A total of 13.07 lakh passengers traveled through the airport during this period, marking a significant increase of 3 lakh passengers compared to January 2024, when the airport served 10.48 lakh passengers. This surge was primarily driven by several major events and festive travel, including the Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh, the Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and the popular Uttarayan festival.
Normally, Ahmedabad’s SVPI Airport handles around 250 flight movements daily, with approximately 34,000 to 35,000 passengers, covering both domestic and international flights. The record-breaking passenger traffic in January 2025 showed a clear rise in both domestic and international travelers. Of the 13.07 lakh passengers, 10.87 lakh were domestic travelers, while 2.19 lakh were international passengers. This is a noticeable increase from the previous year, where January 2024 saw 8.48 lakh domestic and 2 lakh international passengers.
Additionally, the number of flight movements saw a significant jump. In January 2025, the airport recorded 9,303 flight movements, a rise of 1,300 compared to the 7,936 flights in January 2024. Airport officials have credited the increase in passenger traffic to a combination of large-scale events and the festive travel rush. These factors helped make January 2025 the busiest month in the airport’s history.
Overall, the remarkable rise in passenger numbers and flight movements highlights the growing importance of SVPI Airport as a key hub for both domestic and international travel. With increasing demand, the airport is poised to continue its growth trajectory in the coming years, driven by more events, festivals, and a growing global connectivity.
