Swara Bhasker, who joined the JD(U) on Sunday, took a dig at former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey. Pandey had vigorously defended Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, best known as Bihar’s own Robinhood, who lobbied for a CBI investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput’s mysterious death.
The IPS officer of the 1987 batch joined the state’s ruling JD(U) amid reports that he will contest next month’s assembly polls. She wrote on Twitter, “Chaliye Yahi tha Kisi ke dukhad ant par Apna agenda chamkana (Come on … that was it # JusticeForSushantSinghRajput Being opportunistic about the tragic death of someone)” in reaction to a tweet about the same.
Pandey joined the party less than a week after taking voluntary retirement from service in the presence of the Bihar CM, who is also the JD(U) president. A day after he met Kumar, his much-anticipated induction took place and insisted there’s nothing political in their talk.
The former officer reminded actress Rhea Chakraborty, the girlfriend of Sushant and the main defendant in the CBI’s suicide case, of her “auqaat” (status) to challenge Nitish Kumar when she indicated that there was politics behind the decision of the Bihar government to ask for a CBI investigation.
Known for speaking his mind amid the restrictions that came with the rules regulating civil servants, Pandey was in the news as the Maharashtra and Bihar governments engaged in a tug of war over the death case investigation of Sushant.
The Bihar DGP publicly denounced the quarantine of IPS officer Vinay Tiwari from the Mumbai municipal authorities, who had just arrived in the western metropolis to head the investigation after Sushant’s father had lodged an FIR, accusing Rhea and her family members of promoting the suicide of the actor.
Sushant was found dead on June 14 at his Bandra home. Rhea is currently in judicial custody with her brother Showik for their suspected involvement in a Sushant-related drug case.
