CM Vijay’s ED Remarks Against DMK Spark CPI(M) Anger

Vijay Invokes Sarkaria Commission and ED Findings

During the debate, Vijay referenced the decades-old Sarkaria Commission report, which had examined allegations against former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s conduct in office during the 1980s. He went further by citing an Enforcement Directorate document that reportedly implicated senior DMK leaders, including former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, former Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, and former minister Senthil Balaji, in connection with the alleged misuse of party funds. Vijay said he was prepared to make departmental files public after DMK leaders had challenged him to do so regarding three ministries he had previously labelled corrupt.

CPI(M) Objects, Calls Out ‘Body Shaming’ Remarks

The controversy escalated further amid allegations that Vijay’s remarks strayed into personal and physical criticism of Stalin, which CPI(M) leaders condemned as inappropriate and unbecoming of an Assembly debate. The party, though part of the ruling coalition, publicly distanced itself from the tone of the speech even as it did not dispute the Chief Minister’s broader anti-corruption stance. The episode has added fresh strain to coalition dynamics ahead of further legislative sessions, with opposition parties expected to seize on the exchange to sharpen their own political messaging in the coming days.
