Project Overview

Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) will establish a greenfield 10 GW ingot and wafer manufacturing facility in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of ₹6,675 crore.

Strategic Significance

  • The facility will be the largest ingot and wafer manufacturing plant in India, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s role as a hub for advanced solar manufacturing.
  • The project has been cleared by the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB), chaired by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.

Location & Scale

  • To be developed at the IFFCO Kisan Special Economic Zone.
  • 200 acres earmarked by the state government:
    • 120 acres for the initial phase.
    • 80 acres reserved for future expansion.

Production Focus

  • The facility will produce ingots and wafers, which are critical inputs for solar cells, modules, and semiconductor applications.
  • The project aligns with the Government of India’s push to:
    • Strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity.
    • Reduce import dependence for strategic components.
