Teenager drowns in swimming pool in Mumbai’s Goregaon

A 14-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a school’s swimming pool in Goregaon, Mumbai. The boy was a pupil of Yashodham High School.

A 14-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of a Goregaon school on Friday while he was swimming there, police confirmed. The boy, identified as Shardul Arolkar, was a pupil of Class 9 in the Yashodham High School in Goregaon East, where the incident took place.

For the past six months, Shardul has been taking swimming classes under a trainer at the Gokuldham swimming pool, and the Yashodham High School arranged the lessons; his dad has told the cops. 

“His father, Sanjay, got a call around 12.30 pm from his wife Snehalata that they were taking Shardul to Lifeline Hospital. When Sanjay reached the hospital, he found his son was unconscious.” 

Later, doctors asked them to take the boy to a government hospital. They rushed him to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where he was declared dead on arrival,” said the official from the Dindoshi police station.

The boy’s mom said that Shardul was in the pool with his coach when he drowned, according to the cops. When he was taken out, he puked and fell unconscious. 

That’s when the school management told the family. “The father has demanded that action be taken against the school authorities,” said a police official. ‘

“We are in the process of registering an accidental death report (ADR) in the matter,” stated Jeevan Kharat, senior police inspector of Dindoshi police station. Police will carry out a thorough investigation into the case.

Shadul was a local of the Government Colony, Yogi Nagar, in Borivali West. His dad works at the Dindoshi court.
