PM Modi Meets Family of Pahalgam Victim Shubham Dwivedi, Reaffirms Stand Against Terrorism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held an emotional meeting with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, a businessman from Kanpur who was among the 26 victims of the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. The meeting took place at Chakeri airport in Kanpur, where PM Modi arrived for a day-long visit after attending events in Bihar.
The Prime Minister met Shubham’s wife, Aishanya, and his grieving family members, offering condolences and reaffirming the government’s firm commitment to fighting terrorism. Describing the encounter, Aishanya said it was deeply emotional and personal.
“It was a very emotional meeting. The PM was himself very, very sad about the Pahalgam killings. He said that the entire nation and the government are standing with us. PM Modi said the fight against terrorism has not ended,” she told reporters.
Shubham, 31, had married Aishanya on February 12 this year. The couple was on vacation in Pahalgam’s Baisaran valley when terrorists attacked. Aishanya had earlier recounted that the attackers asked Shubham about his religion before shooting him at point-blank range.
During the brief but heartfelt meeting, PM Modi placed a consoling hand on the shoulder of Shubham’s father, Sanjay Dwivedi, who broke down in tears. The Prime Minister listened intently and spoke like a family elder, offering emotional and moral support.
“The PM spoke to us just like a guardian. Like us, he too got emotional and assured us of his government’s full support. We also praised the manner in which India retaliated to the Pahalgam killings with Operation Sindoor,” Sanjay Dwivedi told news agency PTI.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam attack, targeting and destroying nine terror camps affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba inside Pakistan. The operation also included strikes on 11 strategic military sites in Pakistan after Islamabad carried out drone attacks on Indian border villages.
The Prime Minister assured the family that justice would be served and that terrorism would not go unanswered. He also said he would meet them again and stay in touch, underscoring the personal impact the incident had on him.
As PM Modi continues his outreach to victims of terror and their families, the meeting with Shubham’s family stands as a powerful reminder of the human cost of terrorism and the government’s vow to stand with the victims in both grief and action.
