Irrfan, who shockingly passed away on Wednesday, battling cancer, was also supposed to work in Amazon series ‘Gormint’ but had to retract because of his persistent health issues.
A film
with his frequent collaborator Vishal Bhardwaj and another with his film Piku’s
director Shoojit Sircar was in the pipeline, but deteriorating health prevented
Irrfan from working on these movies.
Irrfan
was supposed to do the biopic on freedom fighter Uddham Singh with Shoojit
Sircar whom he last worked in a well-acclaimed Super-Hit 2015 film “Piku”.
Shoojit then cast Vicky Kaushal for the role, and the first look of the film
was recently revealed.
Ronnie Lahiri, the Producer of the film, claimed that he decided to wait for Irrfan’s return after his treatment but had to mutually move ahead because of his illness.
Irrfan asked them to go ahead with the film, Ronnie states “For Irrfan, stories were more important than individuals and that we should go ahead and tell this very important story of Sardar Uddham Singh.” The film is slated to release in January next year.
Vishal
Bhardwaj, meanwhile, decided to delay the film in the wake of Irrfan’s critical
illness. He had signed the film before being diagnosed with a neuroendocrine
tumour in 2018 which also co-starred Deepika Padukone.
Both the directors were very close to Irrfan; Shoojit Sircar was the first person from the fraternity to tweet about his sad demise. Amidst lockdown too, Vishal Bhardwaj was spotted in the Versova Kabrastan to pay his respects to his friend and colleague.
Vishal was an integral part of Irrfan’s rise to success. He directed him in Maqbool (2004), 7 Khoon Maaf (2011), Haider (2014). Vishal took to twitter sharing a snap from the sets of the film, Talvar (2015) writing, “Dekhi zamaane ki yaari Bichde sabhee baari baari Phir Milenge Irrfan saab.”
Irrfan
was also slated to work with Anurag Basu in the sequel to 2007’s Life in a
Metro and even with Gurinder Chadha for another film.
