According to the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW), India’s daily coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases increased to a new high of 273,810 new infections, bringing the total to 15,061,919 across the country.
At 8 a.m., the health ministry’s dashboard revealed that 1619 more people had died from the virus, causing the total number of individuals killed to 178,769.
India reported more than 100,000 Covid-19 cases on 5th April:
For the first time on 5th April, India announced more than 100,000 Covid-19 cases per day. Except for 6th April, the country’s infection rate has risen by over 100,000 cases a day since then, surpassing the 200,000 marks for the first time on 15th April.
Since 14th April, daily deaths have exceeded 1,000, marking the first time over the last five months that the epidemic has taken so many lives in a single day.
In the last 24 hours, 128,013 further people have tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the total number of active cases to 1,929,329.
144,178 people were also cured of coronavirus during the same period, bringing the total number of recoveries to 12,953,821. Recoveries, active cases, and deaths account for 86 per cent, 12.8 per cent, and 1.18 per cent of the coronavirus disease’s total caseload in the region, respectively.
The new positive cases in India came from 1,356,133 samples tested on Sunday, as per the government-run Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), bringing the total number of samples tested to 267,894,549.
The rises in cases reported every Monday:
Since testing is low due to the weekend, the increase in cases registered every Monday from the previous 24 hours is usually smaller than the one reported the day before. However, since the pandemic, this is the country’s largest single-day increase in incidents.
Several states continued to witness a record surge on Sunday:
Many states, including Maharashtra, Delhi, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Karnataka, continued to experience record highs.
In response to the unexpected surge, governments across the country have instituted weekend lockdowns, night curfews, and other restrictions.
On Monday, Rajasthan’s state started a “self-discipline fortnight” that will last until 5 a.m. on 3rd May.
Later in the day, Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, will meet with lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal to address the pandemic condition in the region.
An ‘Oxygen Express’ announced by Indian Railway:
