The menacing accident at Thane’s Samruddhi Highway

Samruddhi Highway accident, a shocking morning for Maharashtra, in which 18 employees were killed, and several got injured. The rescue operation is still going on by TDRF. 

At least 18 employees were dead when a crane girder launcher collided with them on the Samruddhi Highway near Shahapur in Thane between 11 p.m. on Monday and the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF) officials, the accident occurred while nine engineers and workmen were launching the girder on the under-construction highway. 

Teams from the TDRF and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rushed to the site to conduct rescue operations and found the bodies of 18 staff members.

TDRF on Samruddhi Highway accident:

We got a call about a crane falling on workers but later found that the girder launcher, girder and also the whole structure collapsed on them. 

How it happened is still under investigation. A rescue operation is going on. So far, 18 bodies have been found,” a TDRF officer stated.

Dada Bhuse, the Maharashtra minister, reached out late at night to take stock of the case and stated, “It is a very unfortunate happening, and the reason why it happened is still unknown. The rescue operation is going on.”

Ex-gratia announced by the State and Central Govt:

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has expressed his condolences for the fatalities and has given a 5 lakh ex-gratia payment to the deceased’s next of kin.

“The CM has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident,” the CMO said in a statement.

All of the workers were from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. All technical teams and the Shahapur police are on the ground.

PM Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences for the loss of life and offered an ex-gratia payment of Rs 2 lakhs to the next of kin of each slain person and Rs 50,000 to those injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund.
