After the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput due to
an alleged suicide, the CBI has been handed over the investigation; Maharashtra
Police to assist them.
On Wednesday, the Supreme
Court of India
passed a verdict to handover the investigations into the actor Sushant
Singh Rajput’s
death-case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The top courts asked
the Maharashtra Police to hand over all the evidence collected in the case so
far to the CBI and assist them in the investigation.
CBI probe ordered by SC:
Upholding the FIR registered in Patna by SSR’s father KK Singh, the Supreme Court handed over the investigation into the late actor’s mysterious demise on June 14, to the CBI. Justice Hrishikesh Roy, head the single-judge bench, while delivering the verdict said,” When truth meets sunshine, justice will not prevail on the living alone, but after Life’s fitful fever, now the departed will also sleep well. Satyamev Jayate.”
Mumbai Police could have
avoided obstructing the Bihar Police, says SC:
However, the apex court also
acknowledged that the Maharashtra Police too had jurisdiction in the case, and
ruled out any wrongdoing by the Mumbai Police. The main court said,” The state
of Maharashtra refused the option to challenge the order and that the
jurisdiction of the Mumbai Police conducting probe under Section 174 CrPC
(enquire on suicide) is limited for a definite purpose but is not an
investigation of a crime under Section 157 of the CrPC. If any other case is
registered regarding Sushant’s death, the same shall be probed by CBI only. The
case records don’t suggest any wrongdoing by the Mumbai Police; however, their obstruction to the Bihar police
team at Mumbai could have been avoided since it gave rise to suspicion on the
bonafide of their inquiry.” Sushant’s family and Indian film actors,
including Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut, Ranvir Shorey, thanked and applauded the Supreme
Court decision, and hoped for the truth to come out.
