Tilak Varma Backs Young Sooryavanshi Before India A Fina

India A captain Tilak Varma has extended strong support to 15-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A on Sunday. The match takes place at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, following an intense Super Over contest between the teams earlier this week that ended in Sri Lanka A’s favor.

Playing with Freedom and Confidence

Varma emphasized the importance of Sooryavanshi maintaining his natural attacking approach despite facing scrutiny over his temperament during the series. “I’ve told him to keep playing his natural game, enjoy and not take pressure. At his age, this is the time to learn and express himself. Whatever he has achieved so far has come from playing positively,” Varma told Sportstar. The captain assured the young talent that he has the team’s backing and encouraged him to trust his inherent strengths in the final.

Transition to Senior Cricket Awaits

While optimistic about Sooryavanshi’s potential, Varma acknowledged that stepping up to senior international cricket will present significant challenges. The 15-year-old will join India’s upcoming T20I series against Ireland and England, marking his debut with the national team. Varma noted that transitioning from U-19 cricket and the IPL to senior cricket demands resilience and consistency. “He’s extremely talented and if he gets going, he can finish games on his own. The most important thing is backing from teammates and freedom to express himself,” Varma concluded, highlighting that young players thrive when given the confidence to play without restrictions.
