Toxic Beats Jana Nayagan’s Lifetime Earnings on Day 5

Toxic Beats Jana Nayagan’s Lifetime Earnings on Day 5

Yash’s much-awaited film “Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups” continues its run at the box office despite a mixed-to-negative critical reception. On its fifth day, the film added ₹23 crore net in India, pushing its total domestic net collection to ₹214.10 crore. With this, Toxic has now surpassed the lifetime net earnings of Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, which collected ₹198.28 crore net in India over a 39-day run.

Day-Wise Collection Trend

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Toxic opened strongly with ₹101.10 crore on its first day but has seen a steady decline since. Day 2 brought in ₹37.65 crore, followed by ₹27.20 crore on Day 3 and ₹25.15 crore on Day 4. The film’s gross collection in India now stands at ₹255.95 crore, while its global gross has reached ₹285.20 crore, including ₹2 crore from overseas markets — leaving it just ₹15 crore short of the ₹300 crore mark worldwide.

Criticism Amid Commercial Success

While the numbers indicate strong commercial performance, Toxic has faced criticism for its romantic songs, violent sequences, and portrayal of female characters, sparking ongoing debate since its release. Directed by Geetu Mohandas, the film released on August 26 in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and English, and is reported to have been made on a massive budget of ₹500-1,000 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever produced.

The cast includes Yash, Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria in key roles. With occupancy and show counts gradually dipping, the coming days will determine whether Toxic can sustain its momentum toward the ₹300 crore worldwide milestone.
