7.1-magnitude tremor prompts tsunami alert in Kermadec Islands, New Zealand. 

New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands province has been struck by an earthquake of 7.1 magnitudes on Thursday, prompting Tsunami alerts.

Earthquakes have hammered Kermadec Island, New Zealand: 

The US Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the earthquake was estimated at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles). A related tsunami alert has been given after the tremor, it added.

But hours after the US Geological Survey gave a tsunami alert for Kermadec islands, the New Zealand National Emergency Management Agency explained that “there is no tsunami danger to New Zealand following the quake in the Southern Kermadec Islands.”

Reports in the New Zealand press suggest issuing appropriate rescue efforts in the region. Yet, there is no tsunami danger to Australia, the nation’s Bureau of Meteorology wrote in a tweet.

Earlier on March 4, a tremor of magnitude 6.9 had pounded the same Kermadec Islands region, with the earthquake depth reported at a depth of 152 km (94 miles), USGS revealed. 

There were inconsistent reports on the tremor’s magnitude, with the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre evaluating the volume at 6.6 at a depth of 183 km. On March 4, no tsunami alert was given after the quake.
