Hundreds Join Inconsolable Family for Funeral Procession

Tension has gripped Rajasthan’s Udaipur city following the gruesome murder of a tailor by two men who slit the victim’s throat and later posted a video on social media claiming to be avenging an insult to Islam, a reference to comments made against the Prophet by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma.

The incident sparked communal tensions across the state, prompting the Rajasthan government to suspend internet services also impose Section 144 of the CrPC for a month.

Meanwhile, the Centre is treating the tailor’s murder as a terror attack and on Wednesday directed the National Investigation Agency to take over the investigation into the death of tailor Kanhaiya Lal. The Centre dispatched an NIA team to Udaipur on Tuesday night after preliminary information suggested that the assailants had ties to ISIS, officials said.

Hundreds of people joined Kanhaiya Lal’s funeral procession from his home in Rajasthan’s Udaipur on Wednesday.

A large crowd joined Kanhaiya Lal’s bereaved family in his hometown as his mortal remains were taken for last rites.

According to MHA, any organization’s involvement also international connections will be thoroughly investigated.

The opposition condemns the brutal killing.

From Congress to AIMIM, the Opposition spoke out against the heinous murder, also demanding the harshest possible punishment for the accused.

Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi expressed shock at the heinous killing also demanded immediate punishment for those who spread terror through such brutality.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the AIMIM, also condemned the killing, saying, ” “I strongly condemn the (Udaipur) incident. Killing someone is against the law. Nobody has the authority to kill others. We will not take the law into our own hands. Also This is a heinous crime. However, we demand that Nupur Sharma be arrested as well “.

He called the tailor’s murder “gruesome” also said the government must take strict action, adding that the AIMIM has consistently opposed such violence.

Local police recently arrested the tailor for comments he made on social media.

The assailants faced customers also entered his shop in the city’s Dhan Mandi district. While the tailor was taking their measurements, one of them, later identified as Riaz, attacked him with a cleaver. The other man used his cellphone to film the brutal murder.

After the daylight murder, the two men fled the scene also later shared the video on social media. In another video, the alleged assailant admitted to “beheading” the tailor also threatened the prime minister with “this fire.”

As the videos spread on social media, also tensions rose. Local market vendors closed their doors.
