Uddhav Thackeray, the chief minister of Maharashtra, paid a visit to the Greater Mumbai civic body’s disaster management unit on Wednesday to assess the city’s preparations following heavy rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad districts on Wednesday, predicting very heavy to extremely severe rainfall in isolated locations throughout the day in these districts.
The administration was also asked by the chief minister to drain the collected rainwater and resume transportation. The chief minister met with collectors from Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Palghar districts and issued orders to control rooms in Mumbai.
Due to the heavy rains, four subways were forced to close, resulting in vehicle owners abandoning their automobiles on the highways. Due to flooding, the Milan, Khar, Andheri, and Malad subways were closed to automobiles.

Local train activities from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Thane and Vashi in Navi Mumbai, Sion, and Chunabhatti were also halted due to the rains. “In regions like Sion and Chunabhatti, rainfall of 55-60 mm was reported between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Rainwater flooded the railway rails as a result of this.
Only three locations, namely Dahisar subway, Sion, and Chunabhatti, are now affected by road and railway traffic, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Council (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal.
Kishori Pednekar, the mayor of Mumbai, stated that no reports of waterlogging had been made previously. “No one has claimed, and no one can claim, that there will be no water logging in Mumbai as a result of severe rainfall.
“However, if the water does not recede within four hours after waterlogging, we can conclude that pre-monsoon work wasn’t done properly,” Pednekar said.
Mumbai police have warned residents not to leave their houses needlessly and to avoid visiting waterlogged areas. Though there has been no news of injuries or deaths resulting from the rain, a wall collapsed in Savarkar Nagar in Thane, causing car damage.
