Ukraine gets US’ Patriot air defence system

The US declared in December last year that it would supply the Patriot air defence system to Ukraine.

Ukraine stated Wednesday that it had got the first Patriots, considered one of the planet’s most developed US air defence systems. Kyiv’s defence minister announced it on Twitter.

“Today, our lovely Ukrainian sky becomes safer because Patriot air defence systems have come in Ukraine,” Oleksiy Reznikov wrote on Twitter.

He also said that the United States, Germany and the Netherlands had “held their word.”

Germany declared in January that it would ship one of the most developed missile defence batteries to Ukraine. The Netherlands followed suit and told it would give parts of a Patriot air defence system to Ukraine, especially two launchers and projectiles.

The US reported in December prior year that it would ship the Patriot missile defence system to Ukraine. This was about when Russia battered Ukraine’s energy infrastructure from the air.

About 100 Ukrainian armies had prepared the Patriot missile defence system in the United States in January this year since the Patriots require extensive, hands-on training beyond Europe.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated the system would “significantly” bolster Ukraine’s defence against Russian attacks.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin had said that Russian armies would destroy the Patriot rockets.
