Unlicensed two-wheelers in UAE to be seized in new police suppression

Key takeaways:

  • Officials will be patrolling all roads and internal lanes to ensure traffic rule obedience during the month-long period of the campaign.

Bike owners in Ras Al Khaimah are advised to check their registration documents and ensure that these are correct, the police have said as they rolled out a drive to crack down on unlicensed bikes.

Strict traffic rulers for bikes in UAE:

Brig-Gen Ahmed Al-Sam Al-Naqbi, head of the Traffic and Patrols Department in Ras Al Khaimah and chair of the Traffic Awareness and Culture Team at the Federal Traffic Council, declared that the drive would run for a whole month and cover all regions of the emirate.

It will zero in on bikes and bicycles that break safety rules and laws.

Not only motorbikes but cycles to be fined too:

Brig-Gen Al Naqbi asked motorcycle owners to check their two-wheelers at service centres and take them to roads just after getting a licence.

Officials will be deployed to all streets in the emirate — including internal roads — to be on the watch for unregistered two-wheelers, as well as cyclists who fail to obey traffic rules, said Lt-Col Salem Bourguiba, director of the Patrols Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police and head of the Campaign Team.

Violators could get their two-wheelers seized, the officer emphasised.

The drive is an extension of the campaign executed last year, seeking to encourage road safety.

Residents are urged to report neighbourhood breaches or disruptions by calling 0509990299, Lt-Col Bourguiba added.
