Heavy rain over the past two days has led to severe waterlogging in Vadodara, Gujarat, creating a flood-like situation. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extreme rainfall in the state until August 30.
Vadodara received 26 cm of Rainfall, Causing Traffic Disruptions:
According to the weather department, Vadodara received 26 cm of rainfall on Monday. The constant downpours resulted in severe inundation, causing traffic issues across several parts of the city.
Residential areas in Vadodara are experiencing intense waterlogging due to the overflow of the Vishwamitri River. As reported by news agency ANI, people were seen wading through knee-deep water. The overflow was exacerbated by water released from the Ajwa and Pratappura Reservoirs.
Vadodara Residents Relocated Amid Shortage of Food:
A resident reported to ANI that water had entered homes in low-lying areas since Monday evening, forcing people to relocate to safer locations. The situation has led to a food shortage and significant difficulties for the residents.
The Kashi Vishwanath Mahadev Temple complex in Vadodara was also submerged due to the extreme rainfall, leading to the closure of the temple premises on Tuesday.
Gujarat has been experiencing intense rainfall, and a deep depressive being from east Rajasthan towards the Saurashtra region has been put on red alert, with hunting Vadodara because they were displaced and stranded by the overflowing water.
Rescue Operations Underway in Vadodara due to heavy Rain:
In Vadodara, a thousand people had to be relocated due to the flooding. The air force played a crucial role in aiding displaced people in the city. The NDRF, SDRF, and armed forces collectively carry out rescue and relief operations across Gujarat.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel conducted a review meeting from the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) in Gandhinagar on Tuesday to assess the relief and rescue efforts. The meeting revealed that rainfall was recorded in 251 talukas across 33 districts, with Tankara taluka of Morbi district receiving the highest rainfall of 347 mm.
Overflowing Rivers and Reservoirs Across the State:
Due to the heavy rainfall, more than 15 rivers, 21 lakes, and numerous reservoirs in the state have overflowed. CM Patel issued orders for the public to avoid approaching these overflowing bodies of water.
Mass Relocation and Rescue Efforts Continue:
The review meeting disclosed that 23,871 people had been relocated to safer places, and 1,696 individuals had been rescued. The Chief Minister urged the public to stay indoors unless necessary.
So far, seven people have lost their lives in rain-related accidents across the state, including incidents of wall collapses, drowning, and falling trees.
