Sooryavanshi Stays Grounded Despite Bench Setback

Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is choosing to stay process-driven after a whirlwind few months that saw him rise to stardom, earn a historic India call-up, and then face early setbacks that led to him being dropped from the playing XI. As India gear up to take on Zimbabwe in the opening T20I on Thursday, the 15-year-old insists his self-belief remains unshaken.

A Rollercoaster Four Months

Sooryavanshi’s meteoric rise began with an outstanding IPL 2026 season that pushed him into the national selectors’ radar. He quickly earned a spot in India’s T20I squads for the Ireland and England tours, and though he missed out on the Belfast series, he made his international debut in the second T20I against England in Manchester. In doing so, he became India’s youngest-ever international cricketer, surpassing a long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

While the milestone was historic, his form did not immediately match the hype. He retained his place for the next three matches but managed only modest scores, and was eventually left out of the final game — a decision that drew criticism from fans and pundits alike over how the team management handled his development.

Eyes on the Zimbabwe Series

Speaking about the tough phase, Sooryavanshi acknowledged that setbacks are simply part of a cricketer’s journey and said he remains committed to trusting his process while giving his best for the team. Backed by his coaches and continued practice sessions, he is drawing on the confidence and experience gained from his standout Under-19 World Cup campaign, where he famously scored a century in the final.

With the Zimbabwe series now underway, all eyes will be on whether the young opener can convert his undeniable talent into consistent performances at the international level.
