Vande Bharat Exp Food issues, Cockroach in a meal

A passenger travelling on Vande Bharat Express found a cockroach in a meal served by the IRCTC; later, he Tweeted the issue.

On July 24, a passenger on the Vande Bharat Express from Bhopal’s Rani Kamalapati station to Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station noticed a cockroach in his lunch served by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Cockroach in a meal served in Vande Bharat:

The distressed passenger posted photographs of the food on Twitter on Monday, complaining about the meal he was served, causing uproar and increasing concerns about food quality on Indian trains.

“@IRCTCofficial found a cockroach in my food, in the vande bharat train #Vandebharatexpress,” said the passenger, who uses the handle @subodhpahalajan.”

The IRCTC immediately replied to the complaint and issued an apology for the horrible experience, as well as a heavy charge to the food service provider.

As IRCTC replied to the Tweets, Sir, our sincere apology for the unpleasant experience. Matter has been viewed seriously. Concerned service provider has been strictly warned to take due precautions during food preparation. Also, a hefty penalty has been imposed on the service provider and monitoring has also been further strengthened at the source kitchen.

Indian Railways and others on the issue:

Meanwhile, the Indian Railways, via its Twitter feed @Railsewa, apologised for the unpleasant experience and assured the passenger that appropriate measures would be taken to ensure such incidents never happen again.

“We did not intend for this unpleasant experience. Appropriate actions will be taken to ensure that such incidents will not repeat. Request you to share PNR and mobile number preferably in Direct Message (DM) with us- IRCTC Official, ” it tweeted.

The Bhopal Divisional Railway Manager also addressed the situation on Twitter, noting that IRCTC has quickly prepared replacement food for the impacted passenger.

They assured that appropriate punitive action had been taken against the licensee, conveying that such errors would not be tolerated.

This, however, was not an isolated instance. Several other passengers on the same train resorted to Twitter to express their dissatisfaction with the food.

This situation highlights the importance of thoroughly examining the food services offered by IRCTC and its licensees.
