WhatsApp Testing New Feature to ‘Like’ Status Updates

WhatsApp is testing a unique feature that allows users to ‘like’ status updates, similar to the way users can like Instagram stories. This feature introduces a more interactive way for users to engage with each other’s status updates.

How the WhatsApp Like Feature Works:

To like a status update, users can press a heart emoji located at the bottom left of the screen when viewing the update. The feature also lets users see who has liked their status through the views list, providing a convenient way to connect without initiating a conversation. Unlike replies, status likes won’t appear in chat conversations, keeping interactions uncluttered.

Availability and Testing Phase:

The status-like feature is currently available to public beta users with the latest version (2.24.17.21) of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store. According to WABetaInfo, this feature has been developing for some time and is expected to be rolled out to regular users in the coming weeks.

Future Developments:

WhatsApp is reportedly also working on other features, including the ability to engage in real-time voice conversations with a chatbot.

Meta, which owns WhatsApp, is planning further enhancements to Meta AI’s voice functionality, indicating more interactive and AI-driven features could be on the horizon.
