Yash Clears the Air on Ramayana’s ₹4,000 Crore Budget

Actor Yash has stepped in to clear up confusion around the reported ₹4,000 crore ($500 million) budget of Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part mythological epic Ramayana, calling widespread reports about the number a misunderstanding. The film, featuring Yash as Ravana alongside Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita, is being billed as the most expensive Indian production to date, with music from Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.

What the Budget Actually Covers

Speaking on the show Aap Ki Adalat, Yash was asked by host Rajat Sharma how the scale of Ramayana compares to his earlier work, especially given the eye-popping cost estimate. Yash called the reported figure a misconception and offered to set the record straight. He clarified that the ₹4,000 crore figure represents spending across both parts of the film combined, and that it includes not just production but release and promotional costs as well, a structure he compared directly to how Hollywood films are typically budgeted.

Why Promotion Costs So Much

According to Yash, producer Namit Malhotra’s original comment about the budget factored in this full picture. Yash pointed out that in the Hollywood model, studios often spend an amount equal to or greater than the production budget itself on marketing, since these films are released and promoted on a global scale. He added that this expense is justified because the potential revenue from such films is also global in nature.

Ramayana Part One is scheduled to release on November 6, with Part Two expected to follow next Diwali.
