Former India all‑rounder joins Sourav Ganguly to instil belief and chase IPL glory.
Yuvraj Singh is entering a new chapter in his cricketing journey, taking on his first formal coaching role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Assistant and Batting Coach for Delhi Capitals. Partnering with Head Coach Sourav Ganguly, his long‑time mentor and former captain, Yuvraj has set a clear mission: to build a team that believes in itself and is prepared to win the championship.
The appointment marks a reunion between two stalwarts of Indian cricket. Yuvraj recalled Ganguly’s invitation with humour, saying, “Dada asked me, ‘Would you be my assistant?’ I replied, ‘I’ve been your assistant for 25 years, so I’ll probably be doing the same job!’” Beyond the camaraderie, he emphasized the importance of creating a strong team environment, something he learned during his debut years under Ganguly’s leadership. “He made us believe we could win tournaments outside India. That sense of unity is what I want to bring here,” Yuvraj explained.
A two‑time World Cup winner, Yuvraj brings immense experience from India’s 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup triumphs. His coaching philosophy centres on instilling self‑belief. “At this level, everyone is skilled. But belief is what separates good players from great ones. If a franchise has picked you, it means they trust you. You must trust yourself too,” he said.
Yuvraj expressed confidence in Delhi Capitals’ batting arsenal, pointing to KL Rahul’s consistency, Tristan Stubbs’ flair, and emerging talents like Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma. Yet, he stressed that success depends on balance across all departments- batting, bowling, and fielding. “Every aspect matters. We need the right combination to make the side versatile and strong,” he noted.
Having previously represented the franchise, then known as Delhi Daredevils, Yuvraj is determined to help the team overcome past disappointments. While playoff qualification is the immediate target, he insists the ultimate goal is the title. “We are here to win. Just because it hasn’t happened before doesn’t mean it cannot happen now,” he affirmed.
For Yuvraj, coaching is not just about technical refinement but preparing players to thrive under pressure. “I want to help the boys perform when it matters most and build a squad that believes in itself. I’m putting my heart and soul into this,” he said.
With Ganguly’s leadership and Yuvraj’s passion, Delhi Capitals enter the new season with renewed energy and a championship mindset.
