The Second Wave of Coronavirus?
China, which had largely brought the global pandemic under control in recent months, has urged Beijing residents to not leave the city as fear of a second wave of the Coronavirus looms large. On Wednesday, the national capital registered 31 fresh infections. Thousands of people are linked to the new Beijing virus cluster at Xinfadi wholesale food market, and they all will be tested, with 30 residential societies now under strict lockdown. The Chinese state-run media, People’s Daily reported that at least 1225 scheduled flights were axed since Wednesday morning, meaning, about 70 percent of all the flights to and from Beijing’s main airports were cancelled.
Beijing city spokesman Xu
Hejian warned the city’s residents in a statement and said,” The epidemic
situation in the capital is extremely severe.” Many provinces quarantined
travellers from Beijing, all schools which had re-opened in phases were ordered
to shut down and conduct lectures online.
As per the municipal health
commission, Beijing has over 137 new infections in the last six days, prompting
the officials to close 11 markets and disinfect thousands of food and beverage
businesses in the last few days. The officials have ordered the citizens to
wear masks in crowded places, suspended inter-provincial group tours, and
banned group sports as precautionary measures to contain the outbreak.
