2nd new ball rule in ODI matches has made the game boring and one side.

ODI format is facing significant issues, and out of that, one big issue is a new ball after the 35th over. This rule of 2nd new ball rule in ODI has changed the game. Instead of making it more attractive, it has made the ODI format more boring.

We have seen many changes in the past few decades in the ODI format. The vision is to make this format more and more masala. In this process, some rules made the game more watchable, but with good comes terrible too. A few rules now, like 2nd new ball rule in ODI, make the ODI format more boring and one-sided.

Due in day-night games and two new balls in the ODI format:

Due to the new ball after the 35th over, bowlers don’t get a fair chance to reverse, which makes work easier for batters. The second advantage is batters can hit the ball harder with a new ball. The third problem is less spin if your spinners are almost becoming ineffective due to specific rules.

ICC should also think about day-night games. Especially in places where due is there in the ground. If you see matches were due, their matches become one-sided. Even tailenders can play accessible cricket due to unfavourable conditions for bowlers. To make this game more balanced, ICC should take the decision back of the second new ball in ODI and consider adjusting matches day night to day games where due is a significant factor.

Role of Bowlers in ODI after new rules:

Spinner’s role in the ODI format is becoming lesser and lesser due to the second new ball and day-night games. R Ashwin recently said I am not interested in the ODI format as bowlers don’t get any chance due to these conditions. Fast bowlers are not able to reverse the ball. All these gives batsman more advantage.

ODI format is more of a video game:

Due to these rules, the average of batters has gone higher, and the team’s bowling level has gone down. Batters are getting the extra advantage, and every student (batsman) gets a hundred per cent mark. Averages, too, now a day has no value due to these rules made by ICC.

Conclusion:

So to keep this game more exciting and maintain balance. ICC should go to the past format of one ball in one inning and play games in the daytime, where due is the factor. By doing this, bowlers will get a fair chance, and batting calibre, too, will be tested.
