Will give direct connectivity to passengers from Ahmedabad to Sachivalaya in Gandhinagar.

Trial runs for the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Metro extension to Sachivalaya began on Wednesday, marking a significant step in Phase 2 of the metro development project by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC). This expansion will provide a direct metro link between Ahmedabad and the Sachivalaya (Secretariat) in Gandhinagar, enhancing the connectivity between the two cities.

Phase 2 of the project aims to connect Ahmedabad to Gandhinagar with two primary corridors: the Motera Stadium-Mahatma Mandir corridor and the GNLU-GIFT City corridor. The Motera-Mahatma Mandir route, also known as the Yellow Line, covers 21 stations. Seven of these stations, from Motera Stadium to Sector 1 station in Gandhinagar, are already operational, offering partial connectivity.

Previously, passengers traveling to Sachivalaya had to deboard at Sector 1 station and switch to alternative transport to reach their destination. With the new extension, this inconvenience will be eliminated, providing seamless metro connectivity all the way to the Sachivalaya.

The trial runs that commenced are an essential step before the full operation of the metro extension. Once the trial phase concludes, it is expected that seven additional stations on the Yellow Line will become operational within the next three months, significantly improving public transport options between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. This new development is expected to ease travel for thousands of commuters, making it faster and more efficient to travel between the two cities.

The expansion of the metro project is part of an ongoing effort to improve urban infrastructure and public transport in Gujarat, providing a modern, eco-friendly solution to meet the growing demand for connectivity.
