Gujarat Hikes DA for Govt Employees Under 6th, 7th Pay Panels

Gujarat Government Announces DA Hike for Employees Under Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions

In a significant move, the Gujarat government has decided to increase the dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees under the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions. This decision, which aligns the DA with the central government’s pay structure, was approved during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The revised DA will be effective from January 1, 2025, as per an official statement.

Details of the DA Increase

State government spokesperson and Health Minister Rushikesh Patel shared the details of the decision, which will directly benefit approximately 4.78 lakh employees working under the state government. According to the announcement, employees under the Seventh Pay Commission will see a 2 percent increase in their DA, while those under the Sixth Pay Commission will receive a 6 percent hike.

Minister Patel also stated that the arrears for the period from January 1, 2025, to March 31, 2025, will be paid as a lump sum along with the April 2025 salary, which will be a welcome financial relief for employees. This move is expected to boost the morale of state employees across various departments, including panchayat services.

Impact on Pensioners

The DA hike will also benefit the pensioners, with approximately 4.81 lakh pensioners set to receive the increased allowance. The total financial outlay for this DA increase will be substantial. In total, the state government will disburse Rs 235 crore to employees as arrears. Furthermore, the hike will lead to an additional annual expenditure of Rs 946 crore towards the payment of salaries, allowances, and pensions, which reflects the state’s commitment to the welfare of its employees.

Commitment to Employee Welfare

Minister Rushikesh Patel emphasized that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state cabinet has directed the Finance Department to take the necessary steps to implement the decision effectively. The cabinet’s swift action on this front reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the financial well-being of its employees and pensioners.

This move comes as a part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to improve the standard of living for its employees and keep pace with the central government’s policies, ensuring parity in the compensation structure. With the increased DA, the Gujarat government aims to provide timely relief to employees grappling with inflation and rising living costs.

As the DA increase takes effect from January 2025, state employees can look forward to better financial security in the coming years.
