Sourav Ganguly Clears Air on Delhi Capitals Role and CAB Post

Sourav Ganguly has broken his silence on the conflict of interest debate surrounding his appointment as Delhi Capitals head coach, insisting that nothing stops him from continuing as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). The former India captain will take charge of the franchise ahead of IPL 2027. Questions arose almost immediately over whether he could hold both positions together.

Ombudsman Order Settles the Question

Responding to the queries, Ganguly said he has received an order from the BCCI ombudsman. According to him, the order means there is no issue in handling both responsibilities at the same time. The clarification follows days of discussion over whether coaching an IPL franchise could clash with running a state cricket association. Ganguly has pointed to the ombudsman’s order as the answer to that concern.

Whether the explanation satisfies every critic remains to be seen. For now, Ganguly appears confident that the matter is closed, and he is expected to continue in both roles without any change in his position at CAB.

A Big Task Awaits in Delhi

Ganguly’s focus will now shift to the field. Delhi Capitals have missed the playoffs in each of the last two seasons, and the pressure is on to turn that around. Reaching the knockouts would be the minimum expectation from the new coach.

The squad also has a fresh look. Rishabh Pant’s much-anticipated return gives Ganguly a marquee name to build around as he shapes the team’s approach for the new season.

With a rebuilt side, high expectations and two demanding jobs to manage, Ganguly has plenty on his plate. His first big test will come when preparations for IPL 2027 begin and the franchise’s plans start to take shape.
