Goa Nightclub Co-Owner Ajay Gupta Arrested in Fire Investigation

Ajay Gupta, who claimed to be a silent partner and investor in the fire-ravaged ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub, has been brought to Goa from Delhi on a 36-hour transit remand for police questioning. The arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the devastating fire that claimed 25 lives in North Goa on December 6.

Investigation Intensifies as Key Suspect Arrives

Goa Police landed with Gupta at Manohar International Airport, Mopa, on Wednesday evening at 9:45 pm. He was immediately transferred to Anjuna police station for further investigation and interrogation. The Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Vinod Joshi in Delhi granted the transit remand after Gupta was produced before the court on Wednesday. The magistrate also directed authorities to ensure proper medical care for Gupta during his transfer, as he suffers from a significant spinal injury. The court noted the ongoing air travel crisis caused by disrupted IndiGo flights as the reason for the extended remand window.

Manhunt Continues for Absconding Co-Owners

The tragic fire at the nightclub killed 20 staff members and five tourists, making it one of the most devastating incidents in recent memory. While Gupta has been apprehended, the actual co-owners—Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra—remain fugitives. The brothers fled to Thailand, and an Interpol Blue Corner Notice has been issued against them. Five managers and staff members have already been arrested in connection with the incident. The Luthra brothers are reportedly seeking transit anticipatory bail, citing threats from angry mobs if they return to Goa to face justice.
