Akshay Kumar Says Retirement Is Not On His Mind

Akshay Kumar has made it clear that retirement is the last thing on his mind, even after more than three decades in the film industry. Speaking at the trailer launch of “Welcome To The Jungle” in Mumbai, the actor used his trademark humour to explain why stepping away from work simply doesn’t appeal to him, despite repeated questions from journalists about slowing down.

Why the Thought Never Lasts Long

Kumar admitted that the idea of retiring does cross his mind, but only briefly each morning. He joked that the thought appears around 4 am, right when he wakes up, before reality quickly takes over. He explained that he immediately remembers a film set awaits him, with hundreds of crew members depending on his presence. This routine, he said, has repeated itself for 36 years, leaving little room for the idea to take hold.

Household Chores Versus the Film Set

The actor also painted a comic picture of life after retirement, suggesting he would likely end up doing every chore around the house, from acting as the family electrician to walking the dogs and tending the garden. He even noted that whenever he sits with family, they often nudge him back toward work rather than encouraging him to rest.

Beyond the jokes, Kumar shared a more serious outlook, saying he dislikes the word “retire” altogether and believes people should keep working as long as possible, ideally stepping back only shortly before death.

The event was primarily held to unveil the trailer for “Welcome To The Jungle,” the third instalment in the popular franchise, directed by Ahmed Khan. The film features a massive ensemble cast and is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 26, 2026.
