Prakash Padukone Praises Dhurandhar, Flags Excess Violence

Former Indian badminton champion Prakash Padukone has weighed in on Dhurandhar, the action thriller starring his son-in-law Ranveer Singh, offering both praise and a note of caution about the film’s tone. The 2025 release, directed by Aditya Dhar, was one of the year’s biggest hits, drawing strong reviews and a robust box-office run, while its follow-up, Dhurandhar: The Revenge, hit theatres on 19 March 2026 to an equally warm reception.

Padukone Commends the Cast, Notes Violent Tone

Speaking with The Indian Express, Padukone called Dhurandhar a well-made film and credited the ensemble cast for strong performances. At the same time, he felt the movie carried somewhat more violence than he was comfortable with, though he acknowledged that the response from viewers had largely been positive, which he considered the more important measure of its success. The film’s cast includes Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, alongside Ranveer Singh in the lead role.

A Close Family Bond Beyond the Movies

Padukone also spoke about his relationship with daughter Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, describing a close family connection that extends to shared holidays and frequent time together. He noted that conversations with Ranveer often turn to the film industry, a subject Padukone enjoys learning more about, while he in turn shares his own perspective on sport with the actor. This back-and-forth, he suggested, has made their relationship a source of mutual learning beyond the usual boundaries of family ties.

With both films cementing Dhurandhar’s place among the more successful action franchises in recent years, Padukone’s comments add a personal, family-side perspective to its reception.
