The wife of radical Sikh politician Amritpal Singh, Kirandeep Kaur, was stopped at Shri Guru Ram Dass International Airport by the Punjab Police as she attempted to board a trip to London, according to Punjab police sources.

Waris Punjab De head Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan sympathiser, has been missing since March 18, when the Punjab Police began a large raid on him and his outfit, arresting several employees linked with the organisation, which late Punjabi musician Deep Sidhu founded.

A senior police official confirmed the development on Thursday, saying a LOC was issued against Kirandeep Kaur. According to Punjab Police officials, she was not allowed to enter the airport on Thursday as she arrived for the aircraft from Amritsar to London (Air India AI 169), which was due to depart at 1:20 pm. She is currently being questioned only at the airport.

Kirandeep Kaur, Amritpal Singh’s spouse, was on the police radar and was investigated after her husband went missing. Cops suspected Kirandeep of assisting Waris Punjab De in obtaining foreign funding.

Kirandeep Kaur, an NRI born in Punjab but reared in the United Kingdom when her parents relocated there. Kirandeep travelled to Punjab to be with Amritpal Singh after marrying him in February of this year.

According to news reports based on Kirandeep Kaur’s interactions with news agencies, Kirandeep and Amritpal met on social media. In her interview, Kirandeep referred to Amritpal as a model husband.

Amritpal Singh emerged from hiding to send many video messages to his fans, claiming he had not fled. There were significant rumours that Amritpal would surrender around Baisakhi.

Amritpal did not surrender, but his aide, mentor Papalpreet Singh, was caught. Joga Singh, another close aide of Amritpal, was also detained.
