An English woman battling cancer chooses a party over a funeral

A woman with terminal cancer who chose to throw a party rather than have a funeral said she had “the best evening” of her life.

Linda Williams, a 76 aged woman, from High Wycombe, “hates funerals” and wanted to be able to “dance the evening away” with her mates instead.

After being ill with terminal cancer a year back, she began organising the party.

“I had an absolute bash,” the one-time Tai Chi instructor said. “I’ve never been to a fine funeral, they’re sad things, so I chose I wanted a celebration of my life. I almost died two weeks before it, so I had a cardboard cut-out made just in case, but I was able to be there with all my buddies.”

Ms Williams has ever loved Spitfires – her mom and dad were both in the RAF, and she grew up around their base in Walters Ash, where she watched the aircraft flying over her house.

She began writing a bucket list when she was ill, and number one was a flight in a Spitfire. It was “completely crazy, wonderful and more than I ever hoped for”, and her son followed behind in a chaser jet, she said.
