The Delhi government will make arrangements for those willing to donate their plasma; the therapy will help moderate Coronavirus patients in fast recovery.

On Monday, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, announced the setting up of a “plasma bank” for enhanced treatment of Covid-19 patients in the worst Coronavirus affected city of India. Kejriwal also revealed that it would start operating after two days in the national capital. The AAP Chief addressed an online media briefing, where he said that the Delhi government-run Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences would be the place for the setting up of the plasma bank.

Kejriwal further revealed that a helpline will also be set up for the queries about the donation of plasma and has urged the citizens of Delhi who have recovered from the fatal virus, to donate their plasma. If anyone wishes to donate, the transportation arrangements for them will be made by the Delhi government. Kejriwal said,” The plasma bank will be the first of its kind for the treatment of Covid-19 patients. Perhaps, it will be the first plasma bank in the country.”

Arvind Kejriwal -Plasma therapy helpful to moderate stage patients:

As per the announcement, both private and government hospitals will be able to collect plasma from the newly set up facility. 

However, Kejriwal said that the therapy will only be beneficial to those in early or moderate stages of the coronavirus, he said,” usually it is difficult to save lives of those patients who are in the last stage or with co-morbidities and on ventilator support. Those patients who are in the moderate stage, this therapy is very helpful for them.” The plasma therapy uses the antibodies from the recovered patients’ blood, to treat the infected patients.     

Delhi’s Coronavirus tally over 83,000:

Delhi is now the worst affected city in India with cases over 83,000 and death toll at 2623.
