She is currently studying in school as well as practicing gymnastics. So let’s talk about the journey of this Gujarati girl who made her name on foreign soil …

Divya Bhaskar: When did you start gymnastics?

Ahmedabadi girl Arya, who has been doing gymnastics for 11 years, will represent Canberra in 'National Championship' | ઓસ્ટ્રેલિયાની ધરતી પર અમદાવાદી ગર્લનો દબદબો, 11 વર્ષથી જિમ્નાસ્ટિક્સ ...

Arya: I have been doing gymnastics since I was four years old. I will now complete 11 years in this field. Initially, I had a lot of trouble with gymnastics.

Sometimes I didn’t get along with the coach, and sometimes I had physical problems. Not only that, but I also had to be careful not to get seriously injured since I was studying and practicing gymnastics.

Thus, as time went on and gradually I got into the practice of gymnastics, ‘gymnastics’ became an integral part of my routine life.

Divya Bhaskar: How did you get the inspiration to go for ‘Gymnastics’?

Arya: I used to go to the park since I was little. There were different types of instruments. Such as hanging bars etc. I did not sit still at all.

Something kept rumbling. Keep jumping. Many people would look at me and say to my mother, ‘This girl can go a long way in gymnastics.

It would be best if you gave her gymnastics coaching. ‘ My mom offered to put me in gymnastics, and I said yes. This is how my journey began.

Divya Bhaskar: How do you manage to practice gymnastics while studying?

Arya: I practice at least 20 hours a week. I go to school from 9 am to 3 pm. After that, I go every evening from 4 pm to 8 pm to take gymnastics coaching.

In addition to this, I practice more in sat-sun gymnastics and also do extra classes on Thursdays. I get up early in the morning to study when exam days come. Thus, both learnings on the one hand and gymnastics go well.

Divya Bhaskar: Do you sometimes get scared while doing such complicated tricks?

Arya: In the beginning, I had a lot of problems. There was also fear. I was afraid of getting injured , but I kept believing in myself and kept practicing.

I trusted my coach as much as I trusted myself. I was constantly practicing gymnastics. So after a while, that fear also went away, and my confidence grew. In addition, gymnastics requires being mentally and physically strong.

Divya Bhaskar: Do you do any other special exercises or yoga dieting for gymnastics?

Arya: Let’s go to gymnastics practice. There are people practicing ballet. Belle keeps the body flexible. There are also many exercises, including stretching.

Apart from this, many programs are also done which are very useful to the body. Thus, a variety of activities facilitate. Aside from dieting, the body needs protein to do gymnastics. I am a vegetarian, so it is essential to get enough protein.

My mom pays special attention to this. Mom gives me primarily green vegetables and a high protein diet to get all my nutrients.

Divya Bhaskar: Tell us about your performance in the state championship

Arya: The state-level championship was organized in Canberra. It also included gymnastics. More than 40 candidates participated in this game.

There are mainly four levels: floor gymnastics, beam gymnastics, vault gymnastics, and parallel bar gymnastics. One has to get a specific score in all four categories and qualify.

I came first in floor gymnastics and beam gymnastics. I finished third in vault gymnastics and even parallel bar gymnastics. Finally, when calculating the overall score, I qualified and came in second.

Divya Bhaskar: Has there been any incident in the past that caused gymnastics problems?

Arya: I had a shoulder injury a while ago. She had to fight a shoulder injury to compete in the state championships.

That’s when I was able to get here. Once during a ballet competition, my shoulder popped out of a shock. It also caused 3 to 4 ligaments to break.

I had a hard time raising my hand. This injury made it very difficult for me to do gymnastics. I was not in a position to prepare for any other competition.

My physiotherapist and doctor advised me to get enough rest, but that was impossible, as I had to practice performing in state-level competitions. I only underwent treatment for two weeks, rested, and started practicing.

Then the state championship approached, and practice grew. If I felt pain or discomfort while practicing, I would sleep for 4 to 5 minutes and start practicing again. After a while, the state championship game and I performed and got second place. ‘

Divya Bhaskar: What compromises have you made to reach this level at such a young age?

Arya: Gymnastics requires a lot of compromise and sacrifice. You can’t go anywhere even if you want to.

I can’t even spend time with friends. In addition, even if there is a function, it is not possible to participate in it.

Also, even if there is a party, it cannot be attended—every time, someone has to compromise for some reason. Sometimes you have to go for practice; sometimes you have to save everything because of study. ‘

Proud to hear the name of a Gujarati daughter in a foreign land: Mother

Arya’s mother, Jitalben, talking to her daughter, tells Divyabhaskar, ‘I am very proud of my daughter. A Gujarati girl performs fearlessly with such confidence in Australia.

When Arya’s name is heard saying, ‘Next is Arya Patel,’ it occurs that my daughter’s name is Roshan. My husband and I also sacrifice a lot for Arya.
