Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath’s office, said he praised UP Police’s Special Task Force for encountering the son of gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad, Asad Ahmad, in Jhansi district.
According to ANI, after learning of Asad Ahmad’s death, the Chief Minister called a meeting on law and order in the state and congratulated the Director-General of Police, the Special Director-General (Law and Order), and the team of officers engaged.
Whereas, UP deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has called Asad Ahmad’s death ‘historic’ and boasted of sending a message to other offenders that CM Yogi Adityanath’s govt is in command.
“I congratulate the UP STF on this action.” Police fired in reaction after being shot. It sends a message to criminals that it’s the “new India.”
“It is the Yogi govt in UP, not the Samajwadi Party, that has offered protection to criminals.” “This is a very historic step by UP Police… the era of criminals is over… (they) must surrender,” he was quoted as saying by the news agency ANI.
Asad Ahmad, as well as another fugitive, Ghulam, was wanted in the case of the murder of lawyer Umesh Pal. They were carrying a 5 lakh reward on their heads.
According to police, foreign-made weapons were seized at the scene.
Atiq Ahmad, the gangster-turned-politician dragged before a court in UP’s Prayagraj today – from his detention in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad – was sentenced to further judicial custody. At the same time, his son was murdered, is Asad’s father.
Atiq Ahamd reportedly sobbed in court after learning of his son’s death. A courteous had already thrown a bottle at Atiq Ahmad as he was escorted inside.

Atiq Ahmad is also charged with the death of Umesh Pal, a witness in the 2005 shooting of Bahujan Samaj Party politician Raju Pal and was shot dead, along with his two security guards, on February 24 at his residence in Prayagraj.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, has criticised Yogi Adityanath and the ruling BJP for staging ‘false encounters’ to deflect people’s attention away from real issues with less than a month till state-wide civic council elections.
“By staging fake encounters, the BJP government is attempting to divert attention away from real issues.” The BJP has no faith in the court. Today’s and recent interactions should be properly studied as well…” Yadav posted a tweet.
“The (government) does not have the right to decide what is right and wrong.”
