On Wednesday, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the founding stone of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that PM Modi had violated the oath of office.

Owaisi says August 5 is the day of democracy’s defeat:

Owaisi spoke to ANI and stated,” India is a secular country. The Prime Minister has violated the oath of office by laying the foundation stone of Ram Mandir. This is the day of the defeat of democracy and secularism, and the success of Hindutva.” Owaisi has recently criticized the attendance of PM Modi in the Bhoomi pujan on Ram Janmbhoomi, stating it would amount to a violation of the constitutional oath. The Supreme Court, last year, awarded the disputed site to Hindus and cleared the hurdle in the construction of the temple after decades of litigation.
