A power battle between military of Sudan and an infamous paramilitary force has rocked the nation, with approximately 50 civilians reported dead.

Citizens dodged gunfire in the capital, Khartoum, as rival troops fought over the presidential palace, state TV, and military headquarters.

A doctors’ association said twenty-five people, from 17 civilians, have died in the city. The clashes started after tensions over an offered transition to civilian rule.

The military and its opponents, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), argued they had control of the airport and other significant sites in Khartoum, where fighting lasted overnight.

Heavy guns were heard in Omdurman, which connects Khartoum and nearby Bahri, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Witnesses even reported gunfire in the Red Sea city of Port Sudan.

The military said planes were striking RSF bases. The nation’s air force told people to stay in their houses on Saturday evening while it conducted a complete aerial survey of paramilitary action.

Locals of Khartoum told the BBC of their terror and fear, with one expressing bullets being fired at the house next doorway.

At least 56 civilians have been dead in cities and areas around the nation, a Sudanese doctors’ board said, adding that dozens of army personnel were killed, some of whom had been ministered in hospitals.
