Australia reimposes lockdown and deploys the army and the police to contain the new COVID-19 outbreak.

The New South Wales and Victoria border will be closed for the first time in 100 years to contain the new wave of Coronavirus.

With a new wave of Coronavirus in Australia, authorities in the country have imposed a lockdown in some parts of Australia and also have decided to close the border of its states, New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria, to ensure the containment of a fresh COVID-19 outbreak.

Australian officials have deployed the police and the army to successfully close the long border separating NSW and Victoria. The border is scheduled to close on Tuesday at 11:59 pm, and it will be for the first time in 100 years.

On Thursday, Victoria reported a record number of Coronavirus cases which took the nation’s tally to a three month high. To avoid yet another spread of the deadly virus, the Australian government has decided to re-impose lockdown in parts of the country. NSW Police Minister David Elliott said,” There will be significant military and police operation going on to monitor all cross border activity. There’s serious fines and indeed, a jail sentence, to anyone who wants to push the envelope.” People caught crossing the border between the two states with any nefarious means, without any permission will be fined A$11,000 ($7700) and six months imprisonment.

Huge spike of cases in Victoria:

Victorian authorities decided to reinstate strict social distancing norms in more than 30 suburbs, and re-imposed complete lockdown in nine public housing towers, after its capital, Melbourne witnessed a sharp spike in new COVID-19 cases. The country’s biggest single-day rise in the number of cases since early April was registered on Tuesday, with 199 fresh infections, of which Victoria was responsible for 191 of them. The country’s tally stood at 8800 infections and 106 deaths.
