Bandar Box Office: Bobby Deol Wins Hearts But Numbers Stay Low

Anurag Kashyap’s legal drama Bandar, featuring Bobby Deol in a critically acclaimed role, is having a tough time finding its footing at the box office. Despite widespread praise from critics and festival audiences, the film collected only an estimated ₹40 lakh net on its fifth day of release, bringing the total domestic collection to approximately ₹3.15 crore.

A Stellar Performance Lost in the Crowd

Bobby Deol’s portrayal in Bandar has emerged as one of the most talked-about performances of the year, with trade experts and moviegoers alike applauding his nuanced act. However, strong reviews alone have not been enough to fill cinema halls. The film is running on a limited number of screens, significantly restricting its reach and walk-in audience potential.

Stiff Competition and Screen Crunch Hurt Collections

Bandar is facing stiff competition from other releases, particularly the romantic entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, which has cornered a larger share of multiplex screens. Day-wise collections tell a revealing story — an opening day of ₹0.50 crore was followed by a modest weekend peak of ₹1.00 crore on Day 3, before weekday numbers slipped sharply to the ₹0.30–0.40 crore range.

Trade analysts currently project the film’s first-week total to land between ₹3.5 crore and ₹4.5 crore net, unless an unexpected word-of-mouth surge drives audiences to theatres in larger numbers. For a film of this critical calibre, the commercial underperformance reflects the ongoing challenge niche, content-driven cinema faces in a marketplace dominated by mainstream entertainment.
