Shatrughan Sinha Praises PM Modi, Fuels TMC Rebellion Buzz

Actor-turned-politician and Trinamool Congress MP Shatrughan Sinha has set off a political storm after publicly congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 12 years in power. The post on X, in which Sinha also tagged TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, drew immediate attention given its timing and the charged political climate within the party.

A Milestone Worth Noting

The congratulatory message coincided with a historic moment — Modi officially became India’s longest-continuously serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record previously held by Jawaharlal Nehru. Sinha wrote, extending best wishes to Modi for a “long, healthy and prosperous life ahead.” Coming from a senior opposition MP, the gesture was widely seen as unusual and politically loaded.

Cracks Within the TMC

The timing of Sinha’s post adds fresh fuel to an already simmering crisis inside the TMC. A list of 19 Lok Sabha MPs from the party has recently surfaced, suggesting growing dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership structure. Sinha’s name features prominently alongside other notable figures such as former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, actor-MP Rachna Banerjee, and veteran parliamentarian Mala Roy. With the TMC holding 29 seats in the Lok Sabha, the scale of reported discontent is hard to overlook.

No formal split has been announced, and the TMC leadership has not officially responded to the situation. However, Sinha’s very public gesture toward the Prime Minister has deepened speculation about potential political realignments in West Bengal, keeping observers closely watching for the next move.
