BCCI Files Complaints Against Pakistani Players’ Controversial Gestures

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has filed official complaints against Pakistani cricketers Sahibzada Farhan and Haris Rauf following their controversial celebrations during the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four clash between India and Pakistan. Despite India’s convincing 6-wicket victory, the match was overshadowed by questionable gestures from the Pakistani players that sparked widespread criticism.

Controversial Celebrations Draw Official Action

Sahibzada Farhan, after reaching his half-century, mimicked holding his bat like an assault rifle and pretended to fire shots. Meanwhile, fast bowler Haris Rauf made a provocative gesture mimicking a downed aircraft, apparently referencing Pakistan’s disputed claims during Operation Sindoor about downing Indian jets. These actions immediately drew backlash from fans and cricket administrators alike.

According to reports by Dainik Jagran, the BCCI has formally approached match referee Andy Pycroft to address these incidents. The Indian cricket board considers such gestures inappropriate for international cricket and potentially inflammatory given the sensitive nature of the references made.

India Dominates Despite Early Pakistani Momentum

On the field, Pakistan initially showed promise, racing to 91-1 after 10 overs with Farhan playing a crucial innings. However, Indian bowlers tightened their grip in the latter half, restricting Pakistan to just over 170 runs despite a late cameo from Faheem Ashraf.

India’s chase was anchored by an explosive 105-run opening partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill. Abhishek Sharma was the star performer, smashing 74 runs and dismantling the Pakistani bowling attack. Though India lost quick wickets in the middle overs, Tilak Varma’s composed finishing ensured a comfortable victory with seven balls remaining.

This victory marked India’s second win over Pakistan in the tournament, having previously defeated them by 7 wickets in the group stage.
