The Indian railway got its biggest-ever push in the Budget 2023 of ₹2.40 lakh crore by the finance minister.
It is a rise of 65.6 per cent as compared to the last fiscal year and 9 times higher than the 2013-14 railway allocation.
The biggest jump for Indian Railways:
“The Indian Railways capital cost has been set at 2.40 lakh crore, biggest ever; 9x of what was in 2013,” stated the finance minister Sitharam in a budget speech today.
The disbursements will be used for railway tracks, electrification as well as station facilities, among others.
By 2023 the railway ministry is planning for full electrification; more Vande Mataram trains and tracks will be built. The Vande Bharat train was hailed by the Economic Survey as a great initiative.
A capital of ₹2.5 lakh crore has been asked for Railways for the next fiscal year.
On Wednesday, FM Sitharaman started her speech by tracing the seven priorities of Budget 2023 and named it ‘Saptrishi’. The aim of Budget 2023 is for the economic empowerment of women and job generation, says FM.
The railway budget is part of the Union Budget from 2016, so no longer presented separately.
“Indian Railways is fast moving towards becoming the world’s largest electric railway network,” says President Droupadi Murmu during the speech at the joint sitting of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
