Microsoft Launches Bing Video Creator Powered by OpenAI’s Sora
Microsoft has officially launched Bing Video Creator, a new AI-powered tool that allows users to generate short video clips from simple text prompts. This innovative feature is driven by OpenAI’s cutting-edge video model, Sora, and is currently available for free via the Bing mobile app for both iOS and Android users.
The tool marks Microsoft’s entry into AI-generated video content for consumers, offering a seamless and intuitive experience similar to Bing Image Creator. With Bing Video Creator, users can produce five-second vertical (9:16) video clips simply by describing what they want to see. Desktop support is expected to arrive soon.
How It Works
To use the tool, users must download the Bing mobile app. Once inside the app, you can tap the bottom-right menu and select “Video Creator” or simply type a phrase like “create a video of…” into the search bar.
For example, typing a detailed prompt like “A dog and a cat dancing in Times Square at night with neon lights flashing around them” will trigger the video creation process. Microsoft emphasizes that the quality and relevance of the generated video improve significantly with detailed prompts. Vague inputs like “a man walking” are less likely to produce engaging results, while specific, richly described scenes lead to better visuals.
Currently, Bing Video Creator can generate up to three five-second videos at a time. If all slots are occupied, users must wait until one finishes before starting a new request. Once a video is generated, users receive a notification. The video can then be downloaded, shared via link, or posted to social media. Each video remains available for 90 days.
Video Format and Features
At launch, the videos are vertical (9:16) by default — making them perfect for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Microsoft has confirmed that a horizontal video option (16:9) is under development. While limited to five seconds currently, future updates may expand duration and editing capabilities.
AI Safety Measures
Microsoft has taken safety seriously with this launch. To prevent misuse, Bing Video Creator has built-in content moderation tools. Prompts flagged as unsafe or inappropriate will be blocked, and users will be notified immediately.
Additionally, all AI-generated videos carry digital credentials in compliance with the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) standards, ensuring transparency about their AI origins. Microsoft also leverages safety filters from OpenAI’s Sora model along with its own internal safeguards to further reduce risks.
A Glimpse into the Future
With Bing Video Creator, Microsoft is putting the power of AI video generation into everyday users’ hands. Whether you’re visualizing a story, crafting social content, or simply experimenting with ideas, this tool brings creative possibilities one step closer. By harnessing OpenAI’s Sora, Microsoft is betting big on a future where text-to-video becomes as commonplace as typing a search query.
